18/02/2011 - 09.00h The Energy Corse drivers explains his big year in KF2 after winning the European Championship and be at World Championship and WSK Euro Series podiums.
1. How was your beggining in karting? I began when I was five years old, because when my big sister was four years old my dad bought her a gokart, but she didn't want to use it. So my dad put it at his workshop then three years after I found it there, and said I would try, and after that I start to drive every week. 2. How you prepare yourself before a race? First of all I always try to be ready in my head, like to understand wich race I gonna race, like the European I knew I need to win. And if is one round of WSK I know I need to finish in the top for the championship. Then I go to fitness every day sometimes 2 times to be ready. And I go test at the track for understand things and so on and before a heat I always sit alone with the iPod, and before the race start I "talk" to God. 3. Two times german champion (2009 and 2010). Why you don't race in Denmark since 2008? I chose to not race in Denamrk because there was just ten drivers and I got already three championships in five years in Denmark. So I try to find new competiton in Germany and the world. 4. You seems to be always happy, but what you don't like about races? I am always happy and love to be at the track, the thing I don't like with race is the big think about money, like how hard it is if you don't got the money. But is just to work hard and try everything.
5. On 2010 you won the European Championship and were 3rd on World Champ. Explain it.
Already from the start of the season, we knew we would have a good chance for the European, so we worked hard to make a lot of test and really try to prepere the best for the race. Me and the team make the best job I ever seen. We did a fantastic race. For the World Championship I knew it will be hard with all the Super KF drivers so we try to do the best, I hope before the race I could finish on top 10. We started 26th and finished 6th in the prefinal and finish 3th in the final and make the fastes time. Only beated by two Super KF drivers so we was really happy for the race and it was my biggest race ever. 6. But you don't won the WSK Euro Series, why? Ignazio (D'Agosto) was really strong in 2010, and we had a really bad race in Genk where we broke the engine in a heat and started last in prefinal. And in Zuera they took me out in the final so also no points there. So finish second was also a good results for me, but I am sure if we had little bit more luck in the two races I would have a good chance to beat Ignazio. 7. 2010 was really successful for your team. Yeah, Energy is a quit new team, we are a lot smaller than Tony Kart and so on. But it's a really special team, I never worked with so good people before, everyone try the best and do the best for win. Big thanks to Mick, Alberto, Tonti, Morten, Suzie, and Fred GKS. 8. Talk about your team manager in Energy Corse, Michele Panigada. He is soo cool, quit young, and he is a guy who really try to have fun and still work serious to win the races. He done a lot of things for me and I am happy I could give him this good results in 2010.
9. Which are the difference between a privat team like Ward Racing and an official team like Energy Corse?
Is diffcult to explain, but like Ward Racing, you have a mechanich and thats all. With Energy there is more people aroound you. But Ward Racing is one of the best privat team I know. And Energy is the best factory team. 10. What you learnt this year? I learnt a lot about handling the presure when I'm at the big races. I learnt a lot about racing is not only the best driver, is also the guy that is in the best fit and the guy that is best to talk with the media there is a lot of things to reach f1, not only the talent. So Fred and my mechanich have try to learnt me a lot about the other things away from racing. 11. You tested a Formula Abarth at Valencia (Spain), how it was? Did you test any other single-seater cathegory? I have tested Renault and Abarth. I like cars and I hope I gonna have a carrie in for cars. 12. What about next year? Single-seaters or karting again? I hope gonna race in singleseater, and some karting also. But there is alot of work to reach that.
